Setelah Yahoo! bersih-bersih akun tak aktif, kali ini giliran Microsoft hendak menghapus akun Hotmail, Outlook dan Windows Live ID yang tak aktif.

User sekarang diminta untuk login secara berkala. Minimal setiap 270 hari. Pengecualian untuk user yang mengikuti layanan berbayar. Bila user gagal untuk login dalam periode yang telah ditentukan, Microsoft dapat membatalkan user untuk mengakses layanan. Bila layanan Microsoft dibatalkan akibat kegagalan login berkala, semua data user mungkin dapat dihapus secara permanen dari server.

The Microsoft branded services require that you sign in to your Microsoft account periodically, at a minimum of every 270 days, to keep the Microsoft branded services portion of the services active, unless provided otherwise in an offer for a paid portion of the services. If you fail to sign in during this period, we may cancel your access to the Microsoft branded services. If the Microsoft branded services are cancelled due to your failure to sign in, your data may be permanently deleted from our servers.

Akun email yang dihapus dapat tersedia kembali untuk umum setelah 360 hari. Langkah daur ulang email ini juga dilakukan Yahoo! beberapa waktu lalu. Namun Google tak melakukannya berdasarkan Term of Service saat ini. Artinya bila email Google anda dihapus, email tersebut tak dapat digunakan (tersedia) untuk umum kembali.
